CDTOA Members Patti Pirkle and daughter-in-law Megan were really troopers. Patti walked nine miles, all in high heels of course. |

Statewide Team Effort
For 24 hours, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on June 13th, eight CDTOA members and their families walked in Dixon to support The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”. CDTOA Members included Team Captain Betty Plowman, Jim and Tammi Swafford, Tim Plowman, Keith and Carol Pruett, Dan Bertrand and Allen Faris. Also participating on our team were some of our family members and friends, including Brittany Swafford, Anna Willard, Monica Krall, Megan Pirkle and Alex Plowman.
This was the first year we put together our own team and “CDTOA’s Dump Cancer” received a Bronze Award for raising $3,250.00
Dan Bertrand of Armstrong & Associates was our teams top fund raiser, done in memory of their office manager Dale Shigaki who passed away earlier this year from cancer. Megan Pirkle was our teams “top relayer” and had a total of 19 miles.
My sister Carol did an extraordinary job this year as team recruitment coordinator and she and Keith worked tirelessly to make this relay a success. Also, a big thanks to my son Tim too who agreed to participate in the Miss Dixon Relay contest made up of the manliest men Dixon has to offer, all dressed in drag. This one event alone raised almost $1,000.
We all have one goal, and that is that someday neither you, a loved one or a friend will ever again have to hear the words, “You have cancer.”
A heartfelt Thanks to all of you who gave us your support. “CDTOA’s Dump Cancer” will go for the gold in 2009.
