Goal: Joshua’s immediate educational goal is to earn an Associates in Science Degree from Santa Rosa Junior College. He will attend the Fire Academy taking all of the required courses to obtain his Fire Technology Certificates and all of the medical first responder classes necessary to obtain a full-time position as a firefighter.
In Josh’s Words: To be a Firefighter.......... for as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a firefighter! I want to become a firefighter because I love helping people and doing things that are hands-on. To help me achieve my goal of becoming a firefighter I have joined the Fire Explorers at Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department in Petaluma, California. Joining the Fire Explorers has really lit a fire in me! I have become more excited and driven to learn everything I can about the service.
Josh continues.....I know that this is a very hard field to break into. However, I am a very determined person. I have wrestled on my high school wrestling team for 4 years, earning the honored title of “Captain”. Being involved in wrestling has taught me about working hard, leading by example and how important it is to be a team player. These are important qualities of a firefighter since you must be able to trust the people around you with your life. Becoming a full-time firefighter will be my dream come true! I am willing to work and study hard to make this happen.
Note from the Committee.....Josh stay safe. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Thank you,
