Bay Chapter Smoke Testing
Last month the Bay Chapter sponsored a smoke testing event at Tec of Oakland the Volvo/Mack Dealer in the area. They are an affiliate member of CDTOA. We had lots of room and it worked well out for everyone. We did 25 trucks and had 3 no shows. These are some of the pictures of the event. Dario and I ran the machine and instructed the drivers during the test. Grady Proctor checked the trucks for engine labels and advised owners or drivers about the fines if they did not have any and where to get them. Mary Proctor did the paper work and answered questions while Don Watson with “One Day at a Time Trucking” helped in all areas.
We also had a representative from the City of San Francisco’s equipment support Division come to watch the process. I was very pleased with how it went. We plan on having an annual smoke test at this location. Tec of Oakland also does smoke tests and we refer trucks to them if they missed the one we put on. Robert Tennis of Tec brought over a brand new 2008 Mack and we tested it. It tested at 1.6% opacity, some of our members trucks tested at 2.8 - 3.1% (‘94) and there was a 2.1% in there also. Every truck passed and the two highest readings were 25.1% and 23.9%. All others were well below the limit and more than half tested in single digits. These where some very clean trucks.
This is the new truck we tested; it tested out at 1.6%. They had to take the stack off as it has a solid cover on the top and the smoke comes out through all those holes.
