Sacramento Chapter
Annual Christmas Party
 |
Saturday, December 9, 2006 was the Annual Christmas Party. This year we invited Fairfield, Modesto and Santa Rosa chapters to join us. The party was held at Hayes Antique Truck Museum in Woodland. Rayna’s Catering provided a lovely traditional holiday dinner buffet.
After dinner the raffle began. We had so many items to raffle it took over two hours to complete. Items and money were contributed by the Chapters and Affiliates. Several affiliates attended the party: Hunt & Sons Pacific Pride, Nor Cal Trailer Sales, Mountain Tarps, Armstrong & Associates and Network Truck Insurance Service. Thanks to all of the affiliates and members who contributed so generously to the raffle. On display in the parking area were two tow trucks from Jakes Tow Service and a Dragon end dump from Nor Cal Trailer Sales.
This year the chapter voted to recognize an affiliate who has been a long time supporter of the chapter and CTDOA. Network Truck Insurance Services was presented with a plaque to show our appreciation. Alan Robinson has always been there for us whenever we have asked for help or donations. Congratulations to Alan and all of the nice people at Network Truck Insurance Services for being the first affiliate member to receive this award.

Two other plaques were awarded this year to longtime members in gratitude for their years of service to the Sacramento Chapters. Mr. George “Allen” Faris and Mr. Harvey L. Gentry.
Ralph and Billie Barlow couldn’t attend the party this year. Ralph had knee replacement surgery. Prior to having the surgery, Ralph went out to visit affiliates and solicit items for the raffle. We missed you Ralph. Best wishes from all of us for a speedy recovery.
Our charity again this year was Chicks in Crisis.
www.chicksincrisis.org. Chick’s in Crisis is a non-profit organization helping women and girls facing unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Chicks’ helps find adoptive parents for the babies and gives the mothers a place to live. Founder, Inez Whitlow came to collect the backpacks the members brought. Members bought and filled backpacks with essentials to be given to children in crisis. We raised enough money from the raffle to give Inez an additional check for $500. Inez’s organization takes no state or federal funds. All of the money she raises comes from private or corporate contributions. Therefore, if you can contribute or know of anyone who can, please send her something to help her with this very worthwhile cause.
Now for the elves, the folks who put this party together, Jim and Tammi Swafford who constitute 99% of the decorating committee, Bob Kirk, bartender extraordinary, my co-chair Rob McClernon and his lovely lady Pat, who handled the caterer and raffle items. Randy Askins, our amazing Chapter Treasurer, who handles all of the finances for the party. Special thanks to Betty Plowman for all of her hard work on our behalf. Kudos’ to Neil Howe who took the beautiful photos of the party. Finally, thanks to everyone who stayed to help clean up after the party.
Wishing everyone had a Merry Christmas, prosperity in the New Year and God bless you all.
See you all next year.
