Mack Pinnacle the Ideal Western Truck

The Mack® Pinnacle™ makes an ideal dump truck for Western applications. Its balance of light weight and strength, economy and comfort create a tractor that puts the word pay back in payload.

From its spacious cab to rugged Advantage™ chassis, Pinnacle is a versatile machine. It offers a tighter turning radius, greater visibility and unmatched driver comfort with a reduction in noise and maintenance. Pinnacle also employs the most modern technology to deliver a great-handling truck that’s easy to maintain.

An aerodynamic design, efficient engine and lightweight materials make the new Pinnacle from Mack Trucks a natural choice in areas where tare weight is a concern.

The lightweight yet strong Advantage frame can be spec’d for almost any application. Owners can choose from four rail sizes ranging from 6 mm to 9.5 mm that offer more (resistance to bending moment) RBMs, a measurement of bending for steel and less weight. Because of the increased RBM ratings, some applications may now be able to spec a smaller rail size, saving even more weight. A variety of Mack-engineered crossmembers further minimizes weight and maximizes strength. The result is a strong, light and durable chassis that helps drivers work at their highest level of productivity.
At the heart of Pinnacle is a powerplant with amazing fuel efficiency and all the muscle a trucker needs. Pinnacle is powered by the new MP engine series. MP engines offer an advanced combustion design that combines sophisticated software with advances in injection and air management systems to provide exceptional fuel economy. Drivers will get the high low-end torque and horsepower they need.

The MP series provides a compact yet powerful design. The MP7 is an 11-liter powerplant that delivers 325–405 HP with torque ratings from 1,350–1,560 lb.-ft. The engine uses a variable geometry turbocharger, electronically controlled unit injectors, single overhead cam with four valves per cylinder and wet sleeve cylinders with single-piece steel pistons. The engines incorporate Mack’s proprietary PowerLeash™ technology, providing best-in-class engine braking performance.

The MP7 still incorporates Mack’s renowned three engine families to cover all application needs, two of which are available in Pinnacle. Econodyne® (1,200–1,800 rpm) is ideal for typical interstate and less-than-load applications where fuel economy is a priority while MaxiCruise® (1,200–1,950 rpm) provides performance for rolling interstate and full-load applications.

All engines come with the next generation of Mack’s proven Vehicle Management and Control System — V-MAC® IV. This advanced electronics system gives owners greater control over costs and lets them monitor the truck and engine better than ever.
V-MAC® sends crucial vehicle information to drivers via an easy-to-read instrument cluster that includes integrated gauge warning lamps, engine oil temperature gauge and digital voltmeter. In addition to more than a hundred programmable features, V-MAC adds a host of new items, including ABS-based tamper detection, integrated starter protection and programmable daytime running light overrides.

With its compact design and sophisticated software, the MP engine platform provides a fuel-efficient balance of horsepower and torque for the new Pinnacle from Mack Trucks.

Pinnacle also features Mack’s optional Co-Pilot™ cluster driver display. Mounted high and centered in the dash for easy reading, this large display sets the industry standard. Drivers can easily toggle through a four-button steering-column stalk to view up to 50 screens that provide real-time fuel economy and trip data, detailed maintenance and fault summaries and supplemental sensor readings.

While much of the savings in Pinnacle come from its lightweight, sophisticated engine and electronic controls, the vehicle’s aerodynamic design, using the latest Computational Fluid Dynamics methods, helps reduce drag to optimize fuel consumption.
The exterior isn’t the only place to find improvements. When Mack created Pinnacle, it redesigned the driver environment for comfort and productivity. Almost everything a driver sees or touches is new — including the seat, steering wheel, instrument panel, HVAC system, lighting, floor mat and trim.

Mack engineered the cab to produce an unobstructed view. The company reconfigured the wraparound dash for easy access to all gauges and instruments and adjusted its surface height to maximize the visibility plane. The new steering column offers unrestricted adjustment from a single foot pedal, allowing infinite positions for optimal comfort.

Pinnacle offers improved legroom and pedal access. The day cab is 4” deeper with a seat that can slide back and recline up to 21 degrees, providing a customized driving position. The accelerator and brake pedals are suspended above the cab floor and mounted in-line to save energy when braking and accelerating. The air-assist clutch pedal greatly reduces effort, helping drivers conserve energy and work more productively.
Lighting is improved with four lamps in the cab. Lightweight material applied to the bulkhead wall and floor reduces both heat and sound.

Pinnacle is as flexible as it is reliable. Using lightweight trailers and bodies, a Mack dealer can spec a Pinnacle transfer dump to haul 28 tons versus an average of 25 tons for other makes. That’s an impressive difference in a region where tare weight is a concern.
As with all Mack vehicles, reliability is engineered into every truck. The Mack philosophy of balanced design is apparent everywhere — all essential components are engineered and built to work together optimally. When the engine, transmission, axles and suspension are all made by a single manufacturer, you get better performance, greater reliability and fewer downtime incidents.

Service is also a given. Repairs are hassle-free when your Mack dealer is your only contact. And if you do have a problem, emergency roadside assistance is available 24/7 in the U.S. and Canada through the Mack OneCall™ CompleteCare Center.

You can see Mack products and speak with its representatives October 21-22 at the Construction Truck & Equipment Expo/Truck Show Latino.
