CDTOA Member Bill Wroebel sits in the “Relay Jail” with Jim Swafford observing as Bill was charged with making “Aggrevated Insults.” Bill lost his wife Linda to cancer in 2005.

CDTOA Members and their families recently participated in the “Relay for Life” held in Dixon, CA. on June 24, 2006 and sponsored by The American Cancer Society.

Fairfield Chapter Chairman Keith Pruett and his wife Carol were both team leaders and put in countless hours for this deeply touching and worthy event. Each team had members walking the track continuously for 24 hours including when daytime temperatures reached 100 degrees.

Our members who participated were Keith and Carol Pruett, Tim and Maria Plowman, Jim and Tami Swafford, Bill Wroebel and Betty Plowman, Northern Membership Services Director. Everyone brought along other family members including their children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and parents who also helped by taking turns walking. We walked in memory of those we have lost to this disease and in honor of those who have survived.

Jim Swafford escorts his mother around the track during the survivors lap.

Both survivors and those we have lost were honored with luminaria bags with their names and messages inscribed, and these bags surrounded the entire 1/4 mile track. There was also a power-point presentation beginning after dark which showed pictures of our loved ones, some who are with us and some who have gone on.

Thanks to all who made donations honoring your loved ones. Your generosity made it possible for our relay to surpass the goal of $80,000.00 and donations are still coming in.
Once again, despite the heat and the sore feet, this was an exceptional 24 hours.
