SACRAMENTO AND FAIRFIELD CHAPTER ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY, 2003

Sacramento and Fairfield Chapters had their annual Christmas Party on December 6th. This was the second year we held the party at Heidrick History Center and Hays Antique Truck Museum in Woodland. This year, our host Al Garcia, moved some of the trucks and equipment in the display area so we could have our party out among the antique trucks and farm equipment. Before dinner and while having cocktails, everyone was free to walk among the beautifully restored equipment. Cocktails were sponsored by the chapters. Bob Kirk was the bartender and did a wonderful job. Bob got $4 in tips from satisfied party goers. Bob, the job is yours from now on.

Dinner was tri-tip and chicken breasts, baked potatoes, green beans, green salad, rolls and coffee. We had a wonderful cake with the CDTOA Logo and Merry Christmas on it for dessert. The catering was done by Mark Page and his Branding Iron Catering Company. The food was delicious, plentiful and priced right. If you are having a party, Mark can be reached at (916) 687-8054.

After dinner, the raffle began. Thanks to Nicolas Garrison who pulled the raffle tickets. You did a great job Nick! Items and money were contributed by the following businesses: Alan Robinson, Network Insurance Service, Roseville gave us the most generous cash contribution. Alan’s money made an additional contribution to our charity possible. Alan’s ongoing support of the Sacramento Chapter is greatly appreciated. Alan always says yes when we ask for help. Superior Trailer Sales donated a set of LED lights and a check. The check was delivered by Donovan and Regina Diaz.
Donovan is in the sales department of Superior Trailer Works. If you need trailer parts, call Donovan, he will ship anywhere. Donovan and his wife Regina came all the way from Fontana to attend the party and show Superiors’ support of CDTOA. Jim Ross, Commercial Transportation Insurance, donated cash which purchased a fabulous prize, a romantic night for two and dinner on the Delta King moored in Old Sacramento. S&K Steel and Fluid Tech also contributed cash which purchased raffle items. Special thanks to Les Schwabb for generously donating a set of steering tires. Les Schwabb is another affiliate who always generously contributes to us. Les Schwabb has locations in the Northern area of California, so if you need tires, stop in and thank them for their support. Prizes for the raffle came from many long time supporters of CDTOA, Sacramento Kenworth, Wabash Trailer Sales, Wesco Trailer Sales, Hunt and Sons Pacific Pride, Fleet Pride, Redwood Reliance Peterbilt, Haughn and Son Tires, Dawson Oil, Riverview International, Riebes/Napa in Loomis, The Refiner/Roseville Truck Plaza, WTP, Central Auto Parts, Ramos Oil, and Interstate Oil. All of the CHP items were donated by Valley Division.
Remember when you are looking for products or service to consider using these companies. These companies showed their support of CDTOA, don’t forget to thank them.

About half way through the raffle we had a chance to show our gratitude to one of Sacramento Chapters long time member, Ralph Barlow. Ralph has been a member since October 1973. Ralph was presented with a plaque to show our appreciation for his 30 years of service to the Sacramento Chapter.

Our charity again this year was Chick’s in Crisis. Chick’s in Crisis is a non-profit organization helping women and girls facing unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Some of these women already have small children. Founder, Inez Whitlow came to collect the backpacks the members brought. Members bought and filled back packs with essentials to be given to children in crisis. Inez said that last years backpacks were a big hit with the children. Inez’s organization takes no state or federal funds. All of the money she raises comes from private or corporate contributions. Contributions can be mailed to Chick’s in Crisis 8359 Elk Grove Road Suite #103, Box 263 Sacramento, CA 95829. For more information and a telephone number Chicks in Crisis has a web site chicksincrisis.org.

I would like to recognize some of the others who worked so hard to make this party a success. Thanks to Rob McClernon for suggesting the caterer. Rob also helped with the menu, the cake, and the plaque for Ralph. Thanks to Jim and Tammi Swafford who worked like slaves to get the room set-up and decorate the tables. Tammi sold raffle tickets and helped conduct the raffle.

Tammi and Jim also collected items for the raffle. Betty and Red Plowman helped set-up the room and collected raffle items. Betty helped conduct the raffle and brought everyone up to speed on the new legislation. Carol Pruett helped set-up and decorate. Rene and Jim Doherty for their contributions and for help finding a worthy charity. Ralph Barlow for the beautiful Poinsettias and all of the raffle items he collected. Thanks to Betty Faris who sold so many raffle tickets and helped with the clean up. And last but not least, Randy Askins. Randy is from Nor Cal Trailer Sales which is an affiliate member of CDTOA. Randy is the Sacramento Chapter Treasurer. Randy greeted all of the party goers and collected their dinner money. Randy also paid all of the bills. This year I think he even had time to eat. And finally, to all of you who hung around after the party to help clean-up….thanks. Thanks to all of the businesses and individuals who contributed to make the party a success.

Merry Christmas, prosperity in the New Year, and God bless you all.

Hope to see you all at the summer BBQ at Folsom Lake.
