At this year’s Annual Board meeting at the Hyatt Regency Suites in Palm Springs ended with a twist and some fun times!

We had a great turnout with approximately 90 members, guests and staff in attendance. The meeting covered some important industry issues and future association plans for the upcoming year.

The Association’s newly elected Executive Committee was sworn in by the current outgoing President, Betty Plowman. After the ceremony, Betty presented your newly elected 2004-05 President, Tom Williamson, with a new gavel.

On Saturday, following the morning meeting during the buffet luncheon sponsored by State Fund, the results of the executive committee election was announced. Also following the luncheon CDTOA’s lobbyist Brooks Ellison spoke about our recently passed

bill AB 1238 and the change of management in Sacramento. PAC Chairman, Fred ReCupido presented an update on the Associations PAC fund and his concerns about recent Caltrans issues he is involved with.

There was a surprise appearance by the Shirelles at the Saturday night Doo-Wop party. The group’s members consisted of: Betty Plowman, Debbie Plowman, and Carol Pruett as “The Shirelles” and Red Plowman as the biker boyfriend! They lip sank to “The Leader of the Pack” a 1960 hit. Red came out in costume as the boyfriend that was taken away to heaven. It was truly a big hit of the evening!

The members, guests and staff dressed up for the big Doo-Wop party. The best-dressed group goes to the C-DATA staff in their “Pink Ladies” jackets. And Mary Towne’s transformation back to the past was a sight to see; you had to be there!

The DJ played good old classic Doo-Wop music all night long. One of our long time CDTOA members, Bob Hill should be awarded best dancer! Bob’s feet moved so fast, his dancing partners could not keep up with him.

Another important event of the weekend was CDTOA’s Scholarship Silent Auction. Janice and her crew worked very hard at putting this auction together. The auction was a big success this year generating almost $5,400. Go to page 34 for more details concerning contributors.
