Although I have only been part of the AADT / CCTA staff for one month, I feel right at home. The individuals in leadership positions are pleasant and respectful. Team work among the staff is very evident. There is an abundance of eagerness to help each other. It is clear that they have the ability to break down large projects into several small easier manageable tasks. They look at challenges as opportunities to flex intellectual muscles. Their positive actions bring positive results. Good attitudes are contagious.
This month we want to share some of the team projects that we have participated in as we hit the ground running.

CARB Regs and Deadline Updates
We are conducting CARB regulation awareness presentations at various locations across the southland. AADT / CCTA staff is actively spreading the word to our members, truck brokers and owner operators with dates and locations of seminars. The attendances for these meetings have been very good. Question and answer sessions in English and Spanish after slide presentation have helped clear up many misunderstandings. Clean Fleets staff has also assisted our efforts.

New Blood
Betty Plowman, Northern Membership Services Director and I are working together to create an information sharing program to provide chairpersons with more resources and make their jobs a bit easier. We want to recognize their contributions as volunteers and their leadership spirit.

In that vein, we would like to give a special thanks to Walt Benson, former San Bernardino / Riverside Chapter Chair For his dedicated service.
We Support Liberty Quarry

We were present at Riverside Convention Center representing AADT / CCTA to show support for Granite’s Liberty Quarry proposal before the Riverside County Planning Commission.

There were hundreds of people wearing green T-shirts in support of Liberty Quarry and the anti-project florescent orange T-shirts were almost a no show. After putting on my green T-shirt (# 216), I spent some time discussing the project with several fellow supporters, before we filed in and filled the auditorium to hear Gary Johnson, spokesperson for Granite, who gave an excellent presentation.

Granite clearly demonstrated due diligence for this much-needed quarry. They covered every detail, from archeological sites, historical landscape features, cultural sensitive resources, ethnography (features created by Native Americans), the protection of natural habitats and natural vegetation and water sources. They did environmental studies regarding engine emissions and the effect of increased traffic caused by trucks entering and leaving the quarry. Granite proposed to make improvements to Rainbow Canyon Blvd. and even agreed to put in three new on and off ramps at Interstate 15 to help alleviate congestion. It is clear that Granite has done a great job in reaching out to the Pechanga Tribe and the community.

While the planning commission ignored Granite, our group effort and the recommendation of their own staff, this fight is not over.

My Slogan for February  2012
Well I may do some things better than another person, they may do other things better than me.

We each have unique strengths and qualities, but we are equally worthy and valuable.

Equality doesn’t mean the same as everyone else. It means we are unique in our differences, yet one as a group. We depend on one another to fill in gaps. We look to our spirit of cooperation to show us our oneness.

I acknowledge the strengths and special gifts of my fellow human beings, lifting others up rather than tearing anyone down. I may do some things better than you. You may do some things better, Me, but together we make a formidable team.

Not all members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body as an Association.
