Note, DMV office closures due to furloughs. A new Vehicle Industry News memo has been placed on the DMV Internet website.
Reinstated Furlough Days New Information All Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices will be closed on three successive Fridays during the month of July – July 10, 17, and 24 –in keeping with Executive Order S-13-09. The office closures apply to all DMV Offices. Normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays) remain in effect. Effective July 10, 2009, the penalty-free period for vehicle registration applications will be extended to include furlough days. Procedures When preparing and/or processing an original, transfer, renewal or planned non-operation vehicle registration application and the last penalty-free day falls on a furlough day, do not assess penalties if the application is submitted and fees are paid on the next business day. This includes vehicles registered in the International Registration Plan (IRP). Example: If a vehicle registration expires on July 10, 2009, (first furlough day) fees can be paid on July 13, 2009, (the next business day) without penalty.
