Sporadic delays result from lack of paper work, identity tags

Harbor drayage companies calling at the Port of Oakland experienced sporadic delays Tuesday as the port initiated its ban on old trucks.

The problems stemmed from truckers filing inaccurate vehicle identification numbers with the terminals or drivers showing up without the required radio frequency identification tag on their vehicles, said Bruce Wargo, who is head of the Oakland Marine Terminal Operators Association.

AGC of America (AGC) filed an Emergency Petition with California’s Air Resources Board (CARB) on January 11 seeking a two-year implementation delay of its off-road “diesel retrofit” rule. AGC cited the delay is needed in order to avoid unnecessary losses and layoffs within the state’s hard hit construction industry while CARB continues to review its diesel rules.

The trucking industry is preparing for the first of a series of crippling regulations dealt them courtesy of the California Air Resources Board (ARB), whose goal has been to combat the side effects potentially caused by diesel emissions.  Over the past several months, the science behind these regulations has come under increased scrutiny, specifically due to the credential fraud committed by one of ARB’s lead researchers.
