While the founding members owned dump trucks, in the ensuing decades the success of the association brought in trucking companies working in many areas of construction. “Over the past few years it has become clear that our name did not fully describe our diverse membership, which includes a wide variety of construction truck owners and operators in addition to dump trucks,” said Lee Brown, Executive Director of the association. “In the last five years we have reached out to lowbed/heavy-haulers and concrete pumpers, and will formally expand our marketing reach to include construction related flatbeds, water trucks, pneumatics, concrete pumps, mixers and even street sweepers.” On behalf of these construction truckers, CCTA will continue to push for equitable and fair treatment before state agencies like the California Air Resources Board (CARB), DMV and CHP. We will continue to lobby for laws and regulations that do not unfairly target hard-working California transportation related companies who have already been devastated by the crash of our state’s construction industry. Also, with well over 120 affiliates, the association offers group discounts and services at the lowest rates possible, from drug & alcohol testing and Sprint service to insurance and PrePass discounts. The association’s lobbyist and legal counsel at the state Capitol, Brooks Ellison, stated, “While the CDTOA name has historic significance, in the era of term limits and rapid-cycling politicians, not to mention tens of thousands of competing special interests, we need a name that cuts to the chase and leaves an accurate and lasting impression with our ever-changing politicians. We found ourselves having to spend valuable time describing what the association actually does and represents, rather than get straight to the point – telling the politicians how to fix the state and improve our industry. The California Construction Trucking Association is a name that accurately describes us and grabs the attention of policymakers in California.” Fred Martin, CCTN’s newly elected President added, “With our association’s new name, we look forward to a great future ahead representing all of the construction transportation industry’s interests in California. Our name change to the California Construction Trucking Association is a major step forward for all of us and provides new opportunities as well as many new members who will see the important value in what we do for the industry as a very pro-active association.” To learn more visit CCTA’s new website www.CalConTtrk.org or www.cdtoa or call (909) 982-9898.
